It’s not always the fastest way to get from point a to b, and it often isn’t the cheapest, but it is the most relaxing and frankly it’s the only way for someone addicted to a pedestrian lifestyle. Privatization has taken it’s toll, particularly on the stations and the age of the cars, but rail travel is still centuries ahead of what it is in the US (literally and figuratively).
