Bath was named for the ancient Roman Baths discovered in the town center at the end of the 19th century.  I personally found Bath’s most redeeming qualities to be away from its namesake.  In particular, the English countryside which surrounds Bath is exceptionally beautiful, literally brimming with picturesque country manors.

Stonehenge could hardly be considered part of Bath, but as my tour of Stonehenge departed from Bath I decided to include it here.  I was less impressed with the monument itself (it is, after all, just a pile of rocks in a field), than I was with the surrounding countryside.  The nature lover in me that is finding life without a car in a country with less public transport than I’d expected a bit urban.
